Getting started

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an initial assessment, a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what has brought you to counselling, and begin to get a sense of what you are hoping for. I will ask some questions about your background and current situation, and you will have time to ask me anything. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with.

How long does therapy usually take?

It depends on what you are working through and what you are hoping to get out of it. Some people find a few sessions helpful; others prefer ongoing work over a longer period. We will check in regularly about how things are going and whether the pace and approach feel right for you. There is no preset timeline.

How do I book?

You can book a free 15-minute consultation or an initial appointment through Jane App, linked in the navigation bar. If you prefer to reach out first with questions, the contact page is a good place to start.

What is the free consultation?

The free 15-minute consultation is a brief phone or video call. It is a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether you would like to move forward. There is no commitment involved.

Logistics

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. I offer both in-person and online sessions. Online sessions take place via a secure video platform. To be my client, you must be physically located within British Columbia at the time of each appointment.

Does insurance cover your services?

Many extended health benefit plans cover Registered Clinical Counsellors. I provide a receipt after each session that you can submit to your provider. I do not bill insurance directly, so you pay at the time of your session and are reimbursed by your plan. Check with your provider to confirm your specific coverage.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available for clients who cannot afford the standard rate. If cost is a barrier, please mention it when you reach out and I will do my best to accommodate.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 12 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged a $100 fee. If something unusual comes up, please reach out.

Specialties & scope

Do you work with couples or families?

Not at this time. My practice focuses on individual adult counselling. If you are looking for couples or family therapy, I am happy to suggest referral options. Just reach out.

Do you work with addiction?

I do not take on addiction as the primary presenting concern. If you are dealing with both addiction and something else I work with, such as anxiety or trauma, we can discuss whether individual counselling alongside an addiction-focused service might be a good fit.

Can we incorporate faith or spirituality into our sessions?

Yes, if that is something that matters to you. Faith-based counselling is available as an option on request and can be incorporated at your pace.

Are you neurodiversity-affirming?

Yes. I work with neurodivergent adults from an affirming lens. That means I see differences in how people think and move through the world as part of human diversity, not as deficits to be corrected.
